My name is Ashlyn and I was born and raised in South Sac. I was raised in a regular nuclear family with lots of pets, but my mom was going to school and working, and my dad was starting his own business along with working so I spent a lot time at my grandparents house. Growing up, I was supposed to be Jewish, from my dads side, but my mother is agnostic and my dad is basically anti-religion, so I grew up confused.
From a young age I was molested, along with a handful of other terrible forced sexual experiences which really impacted my middle school and high school years. When I was 13, the grandma who basically raised me died of cancer, throwing me into a deep depression at the end of my eighth grade year and well into high school. When i was around 15, my dad moved out, and my parents split up, and I felt as if the floor was falling out below me, however now, four years later. I’m kind of glad it happened. Both of my parents were unhappy, but now they’re happy, and have found partners that make them happy. It’s a nice change. I now have many step siblings that I love as a result.
Now that I’m older I have found sanctuary in art and one of my greatest accomplishments is my local success with it. I crochet, make natural beauty products, and use epoxy resin mainly, however I dabble in other art forms as well. I’m self taught in everything. I had my first vending event March of last year, and I had so many opportunities over the summer I was too busy to hold down my actual job, so I quit to pursue my art. Because of my art, I have had some of the proudest, happiest, and best times of my life.
